Name That Pitch

Two drills in one. The first asks only for a note's pitch class — its letter — on a treble, bass or grand staff. The second asks for the pitch: the letter AND its octave number, with middle C drawn on the staff, labelled, as the note to count from.

A wrong answer does not throw the question away. Name the wrong letter and it goes red, fades, and the same note stays. Name the right letter and it locks green, and then a wrong octave number stays red while you try another — so the numbers you have ruled out stay on screen while you narrow down.

Settings turn the middle C reference off, for a student who no longer needs it, and turn sharps and flats on. With accidentals in play the sharp or flat is pressed first and the letter commits the pair, the way an accidental sits before a notehead on the page. Answers are graded on the spelling as drawn: a written G flat is not a written F sharp, however the two sound.
